We at OC Locals wish to welcome residents and visitors to Worcester County, Maryland. As you surf through our site we hope to show you that there is more to our county than Ocean City.

Worcester county covers 475 square miles and is bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the north by Delaware, and the south by Virginia. Tourism is our #1 source of income, but many job opportunities await anyone looking for a new lifestyle. Skilled building tradesman are in very high demand, as is CDL drivers.

During the year 2002 there were building permits issued for 739 single family homes and 346 multi-family homes. With a population of only 46,543, I don't think it's hard to see the growth of our county. Major builders from nearby cities are coming to the area in droves. They are bringing new jobs and a higher pay scale to Worcester County and surrounding areas. The baby boomer's that made Ocean City the place to vacation are now moving or retiring to the area. The average price of a new home was $230,220 in 2002.  Compare this to the metropolitan areas our new residents are coming from and you can see another reason to become an OC Local.

Unlike Washington and Baltimore, our weather is moderate because of the Atlantic Ocean. The average winter temperature is 39 degrees and summer is 75 degrees. Average precipitation is 46.2", with snowfall averaging 13.5".

Known as the lower/slower Eastern Shore, our outlook on life is geared more toward family and less towards competition with our neighbors. Every town in the county has numerous scheduled events for the entire family. Even our personal income surtax is the lowest (1.25%) in the state of Maryland.

We encourage locals and visitors alike to shop and eat at the establishments that are open year round. These owners have shown a commitment to help Worcester county grow and prosper as a community. Every year round business is indicated as such or soon will be.

Picture of FrankWebmaster: Frank KellerI began my visits to Ocean City at the age of 3, when the only thing north of 65th Street was the Carousel Hotel. In 1982 I purchased a condo on Robin Lane (28th St.). Today I live in Berlin, which is 7 miles from Ocean City, Md. Having raised my daughter, Valerie, with a love for the Ocean City lifestyle it was on her suggestion that we moved here permanently in July, 2005. Now I can enjoy watching my 4 grandchildren grow up in an area I consider outstanding for families.
OCLOCALS.NET was started after we moved here because of all the problems we had obtaining the information needed to start our new life. It is my sincere hope that having all the information on one website will help others make the move to Worcester County. The travel information on this site is a natural extension of my knowledge of the area and my excitement for finally coming "home".Local's are encouraged to offer their advice and visitors are welcome to call or email us for information.
Welcome to OCLOCALS.NET and thank you for visiting.
