Children's Programs @ Assateague
Barrier Island Visitor Center,
part of the National Seashore
Park,features a nature film, aqaurium
with a hands-on discovery tank and
beach combing exhibit.Complete the
Visitor Center Explorer questionaire
for a pony decal.Take a hike on
atleast 2 of the nature trails for
special badges. Open year round.

Summer Youth Programs at the
State Park are for children 6-15.

The Junior Beach Patrol  trains with
the lifegaurds, learns about beach &
ocean ecology, rescue techniques
and more.  

Junior Naturalist programs look at the
habitats of the Island, canoe, kayak
safety, animal care and feeding and
more.

Youth Groups can discover the salt
marshes and the creatures that
inhabit them. There are a variety of
topics from beaches to live bird of
prey presentations. Each session last
1 hour & can be adapted for many
age levels.


WORCESTER COUNTY, MARYLAND
Ocean City

Ocean City, MD boasts 10 miles of sandy
public beaches open from 6am to 10pm. Two
block long
surfing only beaches are
designated daily on a rotating basis. Beach
chairs and umbrella rental stands are located
on the beaches. Nearby jet ski, wave runner,
surfboard and more can be rented from local
vendors, and lessons can also be had. The
boardwalk runs along 2.9 miles of our
beaches from the inlet north to 27th street,
where you can get everything from food to
souvenirs.
Assateague

Assateague Island located across the Inlet is
a 37 mile barrier island managed in
partnership with the National Park Service,
Assateague State Park and Chicoteague
National Wildlife Refuge.  These areas are
kept in their natural state and tend to be more
primitive, but do host a snack bar, showers,
restroom facilities, visitor centers and
camping sites. Check with the individual
parks for entrance  and other fees.

Safety Notes

Life guards are on duty from 10-5

If caught in a riptide, DO NOT try
to swim directly against it. Swim
parallel to the shore until the
current diminishes. Then head
for shore.
